LSVT BIG Certified Therapist, Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner
Katie graduated from The University of Michigan with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy and was married in 2012. During her University clinical rotations, Katie had the opportunity to receive instruction and experience at DMC Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan. There, Katie became well-versed in clinical treatments involving spinal cord injury, brain injury, stroke, complex trauma, and orthopedic conditions. As a result of this education and experience, Katie understands the importance of a patient’s progression through the various stages of rehabilitation and how to coordinate care accordingly. She is excited to be a part of the South Lyon community and contribute to the family-oriented atmosphere Brostrom Physical Therapy represents.
Katie loves being an outpatient physical therapist, as being able to follow through with each patient’s recovery is very rewarding to her. She has a passion for not only general orthopedics, but also pre- and post-surgical conditions. Having grown up playing soccer and experiencing knee surgeries herself, she strongly values injury prevention, including sports rehabilitation, and enjoys educating young athletes on ways to minimize their risk and optimize performance. As a student at U of M, she became interested in Parkinson’s disease and became LSVT Big Certified. Over the past three years, she has had the opportunity to implement this specific treatment protocol on individuals of various levels of severity. It has allowed her to not only impact their physical limitations, but also their quality of life.
As a Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner, Katie is knowledgeable about application of Kinesio (athletic) tape over muscles to reduce pain and inflammation, relax overused or tired muscles, and support muscles in movement on a 24-hour-a-day basis. The Kinesio Taping® Method is a definitive rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered within the clinical setting.
One of Katie’s favorite hobbies is travelling with her husband and daughters; they love visiting new places and experiencing new things. She enjoys being outside and spending time with her family and friends. Katie is enthusiastic to advance her skills at Brostrom Physical Therapy, emphasize positive patient interaction and outcomes, and utilize her experience to portray her passion for physical therapy to her patients’ health and wellness.
